July 10, 2003 Coral was seen stealing some fish from Cygnus's bubble cloud- Cygnus may have not been pleased with this, as they both took off in different directions and started feeding independently again. ![]() July 13, 2003 Good and bad news to report. there are still lots of whales around including Midnight and calf, Rune, Cygnus and Coral. July 14, 2003 Today was definitely the year's best trip so far, despite the 2-5' seas and 35 knot winds! We saw more than 30 humpback whales feeding, including Midnight and her calf, Rune, Cygnus, Coral, and Abrasion (Liner's 97 calf). August 22, 2003 We had the most amazing afternoon! More than 40 humpbacks, a minke, and a couple of dozen Atlantic white-sided dolphins!!!!! Buckshot's calf was breaching repeatedly while the all the other whales just keep feeding! In the mix were Ivory, Mars, Sirius, Reflection and, of course, Buckshot! August 28, 2003 There are still lots of humpbacks around including Reflection and Coral, both of whom were spotted today. September 3, 2003 Some of the whales have moved into an inshore feeding area, west of Stellwagen Bank, and appear to be feeding on something other than sandlance, maybe euphasiids (krill)? They are using different feeding styles than we normally see when they are corralling fish. There were also a number of basking sharks in the same area. It must be good stuff as Coral, Salt and Wasabi were all there feasting. September 28, 2003 Looks like "tinker mackerel" is still the available food on the bank these days. Yesterday we had Scylla and Coral feeding with 4 to 5 other humpbacks. October 3, 2003 We had a decent trip today. The whales were taking lengthy dives, but there were a few familiar Humpbacks around including Salt and her newest calf, Wasabi, as well as Coral. |
